Woodland Pony Rides
For Children
For Children
We offer 15minute, 30minute or 45minute pony rides for children from two years old upwards (children under 4 years of age are required to have a parent/adult walking beside them & supporting them on the pony at all times). Our rides take place through the woodland trails of Ruislip Woods nature reserve, which we have direct access to through our back entrance. Someone from the stables will be leading & controlling each pony and a maximum of two parents/adults per child are welcome to walk along for the duration of the ride (Please respect this rule. If more than the allowed amount of spectators turn up, they will be asked to wait in the car park for the duration of the ride). This is a great way to introduce kids to horse riding in a relaxed environment and can be the fist step towards learning to ride. No special equipment is needed, just appropriate clothing and footwear and we will provide you with a helmet.
Pony grooming & feeding

Pony grooming & feeding
For Children
If your child has shown a particular interest in horses/ponies and they are confident around animals, we offer the optional add on of a pony grooming & feeding session after their ride. This involves using brushes to brush the pony’s fur and body & feeding pieces of carrots to the pony by hand. This lasts approximately 15mins & happens after the ride has finished. Please select this option when booking and we will be happy to include it for you!

Suitable for:
• Complete beginners who have never ridden a horse before
• Novice riders who have ridden a few times before
• Rusty riders who used to ride many years ago but have taken a break away from horses.
• Groups of friends of mixed abilities who would like to ride together.

Hacking
For experienced riders over 12yrs
We offer private and shared, off-the-lead-rein escorted hacks through the beautiful bridleways of Ruislip Woods and past Ruislip Lido. With direct access into the woods, there is no need to ride on the roads. These are escorted by Natalie on horseback and are for experienced riders only. The hacks last approximately an hour depending on how much trotting and cantering you want to do!
Suitable for:
• Confident, competent, experienced and balanced riders with over 1 year of regular riding experience and a high current level of riding fitness.
For your first time riding with us, you will have to book an assessment ride where we will have someone walking out on foot to escort you and assess your riding capabilities and suitability for being taken on a hack. After this initial assessment, depending on your riding ability and competence, we will advise you whether we would be happy to escort you out on a hack with the ride leader being on horseback in future or continue escorting you on foot for your own enjoyment and safety.
Just to give you an idea of what level of rider hacks are suitable for & what we will look for during your assessment ride, here is the Criteria required for hacking:
• Rider must be able to mount correctly & adjust their own stirrups & do their own girth.
• Rider must be able to ride independently and in a balanced position in Walk, Trot & Canter.
• Rider must have a good current level of riding fitness.
• Rider must be confident in dealing with a buck, rear, spook, nap etc. which may occur whilst out hacking.
• Rider must have own Hat up to current safety standards and long boots/short boots & half chaps. (If under 18 must also have own body protector)
When submitting your booking form, please select the 30minute assessment option so we know that you are looking to have a hacking assessment. All riders who have passed their assessment will be required to sign a rider registration form before their first hack, a copy of which can be found below:
